Sustainable fashion
At Jackpot, sustainable fashion is an issue that’s close to our heart. It’s deeply rooted in our way of being and working. That’s why we’ve joined forces with MADE-BY, a Dutch organisation which ensures that international standards are in place to guarantee safe and healthy working conditions. That’s also why up to 20% of our garments are made with sustainable materials.
What is sustainable fashion?
Sustainable fashion means that garments are made via processes and procedures that protect the planet and the people who inhabit it. It involves many issues, such as the growing of organic cotton to avoid harmful chemicals, ethical working conditions and fair trade prices. And giving something back to the communities who manufacture the clothing. In short, it’s all about eco-friendly materials produced in a socially responsible manner.
Focus is on:
• Child labour
• Forced labour
• Health and safety
• Rights to organize labour
• Discrimination
• Punishment
• Working hours
• Wages
Which standards recognize Jackpot production sites?
Several forms of certification and monitoring systems are represented to ensure the sustainability of production sites. Jackpot production sites meet requirements of two different systems.
• SA8000: Social Accountability International. The highest standard in the world for sustainable clothing production.
• BSCI: Business Social Compliance Initiative. BSCI is the step below SA8000, not in terms of content, but in the degree of control. That's why Jackpot uses this system to prepare for SA8000. Their monitoring is based upon a range of international standards for sustainable production.
These two systems are not mutual, but rather supplement one another to ensure the highest levels of sustainability at production sites.
Jackpot now has sustainable production processes in place in India, China, Turkey, Peru and Bangladesh.
